There are mistakes we make when arranging and organizing the main area of the house, which can be easily fixed. Here are the 10 errors we often make when we set up the living room:
1. Do not let natural light in
Do you feel like the room is too dim? Light makes a space look more inviting. This is a key aspect of decorating. The more natural light that enters the room, the larger it will feel. Take a look at your space. It could be that your curtains are too thick, or a tall-backed couch is blocking the light. Ideally, nothing should get in the way of the window. It is better to use sheer curtains, center drapes, or curtains with side falls (especially if the window is wide and the room is bright). Avoid placing couches directly in front of the window. You’ll need to consider a different layout.
2. The placement of sofas that are too large for the living room
Or even more than one when there’s no space. There are hundreds, thousands of sofa models and also the possibility of making them to measure. The sofa must fit into the living room, adapt to it. A frequent mistake is placing sofas too high in the back, which is visually heavy when the living room is not large. Or place them in a place that closes the room (when the sofa is not supported by any wall). The same thing happens in living rooms where two L-shaped sofas are placed. They are two pieces with their respective backrests and armrests, which visually fill and could be replaced with a single long sofa and a corner chaise longue or chaise longue without losing seats.
3. Decorate all furniture with the same finish or style

7 ideas to integrate rustic style into your home decor
Mistake! A living room furnished with all furniture from the same collection, the same style and finish is boring. There is no dynamism. Even if most of the furniture must be coherent, you should always introduce something different, which gives it personality. In addition, it is enough to use furniture with different finishes in the living room and dining room. Is this your case? Think that if this happened to you, by changing the dining room table and the coffee table, you could fix it. Coffee tables are also an ideal element to break with the prevailing style. Also, once you have the neutral base of the room, you need to play with fabrics and wall decoration for your room to have charm.
4. Too many neutral tones
It’s true that most decorators and interior designers recommend creating a neutral base in all rooms because it resists the passage of time better and because it can be personalized. The problem is that if you followed this advice to the letter, but did not enter the differentiating notes, you will have a non-descript room. Solution: you have to play with fabrics and colors. Choose up to three colors and combine them in cushions and rugs. Plus, plants bring a lot of life to the room and, of course, the lighting. The lamps you place are not only important for creating a suitable and pleasant atmosphere, but also because they are a decorative element in themselves. Let’s see what mistake is made in terms of lighting!
5. White and general artificial light
Another of the most common mistakes in furnishing the living room (which also concerns distribution) are the light points. How many do you have in the room? It is important to plan where to place the lamps and not only think about those that give general light (those on the ceiling). Do you have a single light point in the living room? It is not necessary to place a single ceiling lamp, combine several or opt for a model with spotlights or adjustable arms.
Additionally, the light should be warm or neutral. But never white, much colder and less welcoming. And of course, you need to incorporate floor, floor, wall or table lamps. There must be a light point of this type in at least 3 of the 4 corners of the room.

6. The ideal position of the sofa and TV
Perhaps it is one of the most important couples to take into consideration in the distribution of the room. A distance of 1.5 m (minimum) must be maintained between the sofa and the TV. Current televisions offer good image quality, but are not comfortable on the eyes if we move the seats too close. Also, you should avoid placing the TV parallel to the window, but if there is no other option, reflections can be solved with a blackout curtain.
7. Let’s add a small rug
The installation of a carpet does not have many mysteries, but it must be done correctly from the point of view of measurements if we do not want to give the feeling that it is too small. It’s a common mistake to leave it “short.” And this visually reduces the size of the room. The carpet should cover well. Placed in the living room area, the front legs of the chairs should be above the carpet or at the same level as the largest sofa and accommodate the table and the rest of the chairs. Forget about the carpet that only the coffee table has.
8. Distance from the table and its dimensions
I almost didn’t reach the coffee table on the sofa. This is what happens. It’s possible that you won’t be able to reach it because it’s too far away or because it’s too small. Mistake! An inadequately sized coffee table will ruin the entire decoration of the room. It has a lot of weight due to the central place it occupies in the room. You should be able to reach the coffee table simply by extending your arm, standing up from the sofa. A space of 50-60 cm must be respected between the sofa and the coffee table. You can’t even glue it too much because access or passage will not be comfortable. In large rooms, choose a suggestive and generously sized table. In mini rooms the coffee table can even be replaced with some coffee tables with better results.
9. A very square room
Always seeking symmetry carries a risk: that the room becomes square or static. And this also happens because most of the furniture that decorates a living room has straight lines. The mistake is not thinking about curved or shaped lines. With them it is possible to break that effect of linearity, symmetry and parallelism.

10. We decorate the walls to the brim
Paintings, shelves, shelves, wallpaper, mirrors… How many objects decorate the walls of the living room? If you feel like they are literally coming towards you, you may have too many. Empty holes are also permitted. Perhaps the trickiest thing is achieving the balance of knowing when it’s too much. Consider that if the wall has wallpaper you don’t need much else to decorate it. If it is painted, the paintings and decorative objects match. You can charge another front, but then you’ll have to take out more to compensate. Even a wall is “filled” with a large table or floor lamp in front of it, for example. Placing a large or more painting or a mirror fills it a lot and in a cleaner and more orderly way than a composition with many paintings or sheets.
